Inside the relaunch of The Miller Tavern Yonge

Think you know The Miller Tavern? It’s time for another look. Recognized as one of Hoggs Hollow’s most storied locales, the hotel-turned-bar-turned-restaurant has recently been revamped and relaunched for a new generation of curious diners. With fresh spaces to discover, a revived menu of upscale pub fare, and a modern glow-up with a hint of old-world charm, The Miller Tavern is ready for its close up.

A legendary property dating back to the mid 1800s, The Miller Tavern is almost as storied as the city itself. Built by the Hogg brothers, of Hoggs Hollow fame, on a muddy trail named Yonge Street in 1857, the building was first dubbed The York Mills Hotel. After several iterations, it eventually became The Miller Tavern, a watering hole and eatery beloved by the neighbourhood and those passing through.

Now under the Scale Hospitality umbrella, The Miller Tavern was recently renovated by block plan studios. Harnessing Scale’s flair for shaping exceptional moments, the update includes lounge seating by the fire, bar and classic table seats, along with a main floor raw bar where guests are invited to watch chefs live shuck oysters at the counter. Throughout, the space is embellished with ornate fixtures and custom wallpaper made from Hoggs Hollow-inspired paintings by mural artist Charlotte Terrell.

With floor-to-ceiling, wrap around windows and heating, a new indoor terrace affords guests expansive patio views in summer and the feeling of dining al fresco even in cooler months. For intimate events, redesigned private dining rooms offer elegant options for special moments.

Revitalized by Scale Hospitality corporate executive chef, Ted Corrado, and head chef, Ilan Shpigel, The Miller Tavern's new menu finds a wealth of refined British staples and brasserie fare vying for attention. From upscale starters and fine chilled seafood to ultra-premium steak cuts, Sunday Roasts, seasonal salads, and crowd-favourite sides, the menu works as well for leisurely weekend dining as it does for weekday lunch dates.

"The Miller Tavern is synonymous with fond memories shared by guests from across the city and revitalizing it was important to us and a true labour of love,” said Hanif Harji, CEO of Scale Hospitality, in a press release. “Our distinct take on both the menu and renovations reflect our best intentions to continue investing in and updating this very one-of-a-kind, historic property and we intend to provide the best in hospitality to the neighbourhood for many years to come.

”Located at 3885 Yonge Street, The Miller Tavern is open seven days a week from 11:30am to 10pm. To reserve your table, visit Themillertavern.com.
