Hot Dip is a new pop-up doing classic French dip-style sammies that are sure to satisfy.
Owner Jon Lucas opened Hot Dip last week and had been wanting to do a sandwich shop after working in the restaurant industry for years. The pop-up is running out of Cold Tea Bar on Queen West.
"My wife owns Cold Tea Bar and she had a retail space that was just sitting there empty. I’ve always had an affinity for sandwiches and wanted to open a shop focused on them,” says Lucas.
On the menu, you’ll find sandwiches paired with a flavourful dip to enjoy. They do classic French dip sandwiches made with roast beef and hot horseradish on a warm baguette with au jus. They also have a sandwich called the Hot Dip with roast beef, horseradish mayo and crispy onions on a pretzel roll with a sharp cheddar dip. For the vegetarians, a Pastrami-spiced portobello with sauerkraut and swiss cheese on toasted rye with a Russian dressing dip is a favourable choice as well.
Everything is made in-house and ingredients are sourced locally. The bread is made locally and to custom specifications from Lucas by a friend’s bakery. They have a total of four sandwiches on the menu now, but Lucas is looking to expand and will also be offering summer specials as well.
Hot Dip is located at 1186 Queen Street West out of Cold Tea Bar. They are open Wednesday to Sunday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. They are hoping to expand hours as they get busier. They are only available for pickup right now, but will be looking to set up with third party apps to offer delivery.
