Celebrate the season with holiday afternoon tea at the St. Regis Toronto

When the stress of the holidays threatens to dampen your mood, there's one place in the city guaranteed to coax you back from the brink -- the St. Regis hotel's sumptuous Astor Lounge. Add the hotel's new Holiday Afternoon Tea to the mix and you'll delight in a menu of charming savoury and sweet treats that will have you embracing the season one bite at a time.

Founded in 1904 by the illustrious Astor family in New York, it's no wonder that the St. Regis brand goes hand in hand with opulence and effortless glamour. Since 2012, Toronto's St. Regis has been a destination of choice for those in need of pampering, memorable cuisine and an oasis in the heart of the city.

For the hotel's new Holiday Afternoon Tea, pastry chef Gerald Tan and his team have captured the euphoria of the season in a slew of petite, artistic creations that will make your eyes light up like a child's. Settle into the glow of the exquisitely-appointed Astor Lounge and you'll want for nothing.

To begin, choose from a selection of brews from Sloane Fine Tea Merchants. The Midnight Brew, created exclusively for the St. Regis, was inspired by Astor family matriarch and afternoon-tea-devotee Caroline Astor. It combines floral notes with exotic wood, apple blossoms and, naturally, the essence of Champagne.

Those craving a stronger sip will want to add a Caroline Sour, the Astor Lounge's signature cocktail, to their order. Made with Midnight Blossom tea, gin, and St. Germain liqueur, it's the merriest way to toast an afternoon.

On modernist trays, guests will discover a collection of finger sandwiches, petit fours and scones. Lobster salad on brioche, alongside smoked salmon with dill and lemon ricotta make a wonderful beginning. Smoked turkey on rye with brie and cranberry mayo is a toothsome nod to traditional holiday dinners.

Sweets include elf-sized bûche de Noël assembled with dark chocolate mousse and chocolate sponge. With a hit of rum and white chocolate ganache topped with streusel, individual eggnog panna cottas turn a festive sip into an indispensable seasonal sweet. Flawless, crimson-coloured raspberry Bavarians would be too cute to eat if they weren’t made of crisp almond sablé and ethereal Grand Marnier Chantilly cream.

A tray of holiday-spiced scones with citrus marmalade, strawberry preserves and Devonshire cream is the best type of excess. No, you can’t eat more. But each tender, creamy bite is exactly the type of holiday extra that makes the season special.

Sometimes, all the holidays need is a quiet interruption from the fray. Available on weekends from now until December 26, Holiday Afternoon Tea at the St. Regis is the moment of calm you crave. Book now on OpenTable and create the type of holiday tradition you'll treasure year after year.
