Most nations in the world have a certain spirit or drink that is important to their lore. For China, that particular libation is known as Baijiu. For this year's World Baijiu Day, Hong Shing is curating an event to put China's national liquor on center stage.
Recently, the Cantonese-style restaurant introduced the first Baijiu-focused bar in Toronto. For this special occasion, the joint is offering an experience that combines the rich heritage of Chinese cuisine with innovative mixology. On Wednesday, Hong Shing will host an event in collaboration with Jiang Xiao Bai Distillery to educate and familiarize patrons with what might be a new spirit for them. The event will run from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. and will be open to the public.
Available will be Baijiu tasting flights — a chance to experience 12 different spirits. Tasting shots range from $5-$12, with the price varying based on the rarity of bottles.
Outside of the tasting flight, patrons will also have the opportunity to savour a $6 shot of the specially infused Jiang Xiao Bai — a light-aroma Baijiu made from sorghum.
The stars of the show, however, will be the beautifully crafted cocktails from Hong Shing's inaugural menu, titled "Hong Shing's Drink Menu Volume 1 | Baijiu is here to stay!"
A selection of innovative Baijiu cocktails will be available for $12 each. Offerings include:
The restaurant's bar program embraces a philosophy that goes beyond just mixing ingredients and pouring them into a glass. Inspired by the idea that each drink is equal parts process and product, the team is dedicated to crafting cocktails that inspire their drinkers and imbibe them with unforgettable experiences.
"As a proud contributor to Toronto’s vibrant food scene for 27 years, we are deeply passionate about creating memorable experiences for our guests," Colin Li, owner of Hong Shing, said. "Our new bar program is a testament to our commitment to innovation and providing a warm, welcoming environment that has been our hallmark throughout the years. We invite our guests to embark on a journey of taste and discovery as we showcase the versatility of Baijiu in our handcrafted cocktails."
