Whether you’re always in the mood for ice cream or your cravings are powered by sunny days and higher temps, you’ll want to head to the Distillery District for this season’s most luscious treat. In an assortment of flavours -- some that capture summer’s essence, others the height of decadence -- Cluny Bistro’s new roster of ice creams are some of the city’s best.
When the restaurant closed last March due to the pandemic, the team at Cluny Bistro & Boulangerie searched for ways to make to-go meals and treats that would appeal to hungry, housebound hordes. At the time, chef Andrew Wilson began experimenting with limited-run flavours of premium ice cream, a perfectly portable treat that soon became a hit with Distillery District dwellers.
Building on that initial success, Wilson expanded the line to include five core flavours, all made with a base of rich crème Anglaise. Packaged in cheerily-designed containers, the flavours boast cute names like Gran’s Fave, Cherry Beach and Strawberry Feels Forever. Chocoholics will swoon at Chocolate Munchies -- a flavour that finds salted caramel, chocolate nuggets and half-baked brownie bits swirled into the richest dark chocolate ice cream.
Cluny ice cream is available in pints for pre-order pickup or delivery through the Cluny Café and its sister restaurant, District Pizza. Pick up a few pints, along with some of Cluny’s other amazing offerings -- from exceptional pastries and sandwiches to meal kits -- and find your favourite. We’re not saying grandma always knows best, but there’s something about Cluny’s brown butter ice cream with salted pretzels and rum-soaked raisins that makes us think she got this one right.
