A year into our COVID-restricted lifestyles, it’s safe to say that we’re all in need of a little excitement. If you’re currently aching for the after-work cocktail scene, Drinks On Friday has (some of) the relief you need. This innovative subscription service can’t provide the heartening din of your favourite bar but what it does deliver is a roster of elegant drinks to perk up the end of the workweek.
Drinks On Friday is the brainchild of Toronto mixologist Madison Homewood, who has worked in local spots, including Supernova Ballroom and Le Phenix restaurant. After placing 2nd in the Beyond the Rail Competition at the 2021 Restaurants Canada Show with the concept, Homewood says she, “just felt like [she] needed to bring it to fruition.”
Subscribers to Drinks On Friday receive a month of cocktails, two for each Friday, all based on one spirit. Cocktails ship the first week of every month and include everything needed, from mixers and garnishes to detailed instructions, to craft restaurant-calibre bevvies at home.
“We create different flavour profiles and styles of cocktails to show off the nuances and versatility of our feature spirit,” says Homewood. April’s cocktails, including a blood orange and rosemary negroni and a pineapple green tea collins, feature Sipsmith Gin. For May, Tequila Herradura will be the tipple of choice. Beyond that, says Homewood, “we can’t spoil all the surprises!”
