Yorkville has a brand new, high-end restaurant space that sushi lovers won't want to miss out on.
The Kibo franchise, which includes 16 locations across Toronto and Calgary, is known for its artfully-prepared and thoughtfully-presented sushi in what is typically a fairly casual environment. However, their new "Secret Garden" Omakase is the first of their more upscale iterations of the restaurant, located in Toronto's swanky Yorkville neighbourhood and providing a more sophisticated experience. Omakase, which means "I will leave it up to you," is a more high-end sushi tradition where the culinary selection is left entirely up to the chef. At Kibo's Secret Garden, typical Japanese ingredients and preparation techniques are incorporated with a modern flair for the perfect elegant dining experience.
The menu features both a classic Omakase meal with sake pairings, available through reservation at the bar and a la carte options for guests who sit in the dining area. It could be argued that the fish served is the freshest you can find in the city, because it's flown in daily from Japan and served 24 hours after being caught (yes, you read that correctly).
On the Omakase menu, which goes for $100, guests can indulge in dishes like sea bass, black cod and red snapper nigiri, bluefin tuna belly, wagyu beef and a wide variety of the freshest mixed sashimi. The menu changes every day, but the Omakase menu will always include 20 delicious and unique courses for maximum enjoyment. Those who prefer to select specific dishes for their meal can choose from rolls like torched salmon, wagyu shishito pepper and scallop dragon.
Regardless of how you'd like to dine at Kibo's Secret Garden, there's no doubt that you'll bask in the tasteful presentation and the most authentic, fresh sushi experience outside of Japan right here in Toronto's midtown. Make sure to call ahead or use Open Table to snag a reservation ahead of time, or if you prefer to enjoy an Omakase Bento box at home, order takeout through DoorDash or Ritual.
