As outdoor summer soirées are eclipsed by intimate, indoor celebrations, Ahma is the spot you’ll want to bookmark for all your upcoming events.
Celebrating its grand opening on Oct. 9 at 1564 Queen Street West, Ahma is a beautiful, airy event and pop-up space that’s ideal for classes, dinners, tastings and other unique experiences. The new project, from certified beverage expert Evelyn Chick of Evelyn Chick Projects, is “a dynamic pop-up and event space for those seeking to host or attend unique, elevated food and beverage experiences,” says Chick. Meaning “grandma” in Chinese, Ahma is intended to be “full of life, love and adventure.”
The 1,300 square-foot space, “is elegant, [and] bright, with a mid-century modern feel,” says Chick. At the front, a glass garage door opens to the street. “There are accents of soft green, brass and gold and lots of minimalist decor using pastel colours and textures."
Core elements of the space include a weathered wood bar with a marble top, a vintage faux fireplace and charming lounge area in the back. Designed to appeal to a range of tastes, Ahma is open and uncluttered, allowing for customers to “walk in and change a couple [of] decorative elements within the space to make it their own."
Though Ahma is, first and foremost, an event and pop-up space, it also houses a small store with a curated selection of items perfect for gifting or treating oneself. Here, customers will find vintage items from My Goodies Vintage along with wine, beer and Salty Paloma cocktail kits.
“Our Salty fans will be glad to know that they will now be able to pick up their cocktail kits in our Ahma store front,” says Chick. “Salty will be carrying out their cocktail production in Ahma’s space. This is where we will host some of our in-person cocktail classes, as well.”
As part of its soft-opening phase, Ahma has already served as a backdrop for a Gatsby-themed cocktail class for TL Insider members. On Oct. 4, as part of the Toronto Food Film Festival, Chick will be hosting an intimate food and drink experience at Ahma alongside chef Eva Chin, in partnership with Quell.
Anyone interested in booking Ahma can do so through the company’s Instagram or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. The space is open for private and corporate bookings seven days a week, with a full-service bar and customizable catering menu on offer.
“The idea behind the space is to provide unique experiences for the adventurous and curious,” says Chick. Whether you're looking to host or be hosted, Ahma provides the perfect setting for all the exclusive, bespoke events your social life has been missing.
