With this first-ever vegan-friendly deal book, plant-based dining has become more accessible in Toronto. For those already eating plant-based and others who are curious, the book features savings at 36 restaurants all over the city!
Founded in Vancouver by Jordan Matthew in the summer of 2020, Plant Curious was originally a subscription box featuring local small businesses and their plant-based products. Kyle Shea, Matthew's partner out of Toronto, joined the company the following year. As a previous server, Matthew always intended to shift the focus to include vegan-friendly restaurants. In December 2021, Plant Curious launched Canada's first 100% plant-based deals book for dining in Vancouver.
Expanding beyond the west coast, individuals can now enjoy the same exciting offers and deals in Toronto. The coupons vary from saving on your meal, buying one and getting one free and those that are specific to the restaurant. "It's great for anyone whos interested in plant-based food. It's obviously great for vegans because they can get deals on all these vegan-friendly restaurants but it's also good for people who are kinda interested in eating more plant-based and exploring spots," says Matthew. The book itself sells for $35.00 and has a value of $700 in potential savings.
The name Plant Curious is trying to be fun and curious and get people to explore outside of what they're used to. "That's what we found in Vancouver; it incentivizes you to go and experience these places, which are really cool," says Matthew. As of right now, Plant Curious works as a coupon book, hoping to move digitally in the future. The book displays photos from each restaurant and a QR code opening to a map of the city with the different locations it can be used.
Featured restaurants include Rosalinda, Fresh, Kupfert & Kim and Hello 123. The Plant Curious deal book can be purchased online at the company's website. A handful of restaurants are also selling the book in-store, including but not limited to Aunty Em's Deli, Basil Box and Plant Lyfe Cafe. "It's not just about savings; it's about exploring, trying new foods, trying new restaurants and highlighting the plant-friendly sustainable community in Toronto," says Matthew.
The Plant Curious deal book is a great guide to some of the best vegan-friendly restaurants in the city. Whether you are plant-based or merely interested in trying, this book is right for you.
