Known for their beautiful and masterful French-inspired pastries, Roselle Desserts has found another way to delight the city with their inventive baking: a candle that smells just like their pâte sucrée, or tart shells.

The perfect culmination of two local businesses, the Freshly Baked Pâte Sucrée Candle is a collaborative project by Roselle and Brwn Collective, a Black woman-owned business specializing in hand-poured luxury candles.

Founder Sagal Ali is a long-time fan of the Roselle duo, Stephanie Duong and Bruce Lee, and their baked goods. As part of her new year’s resolution to collaborate with local businesses she loves and respects, she decided to reach out with a sweet idea.

“If I’ve come over to your house, there’s a 99% chance I came carrying a box of Roselle goodies,” writes Ali. “To say they’re the best patisserie in town is an understatement.”

All of Ali’s candles, including the new Pâte Sucrée, is hand-poured by her using 100% coconut wax, paraben- and phthalate-free fragrance oils, and lead-free cotton braid wick for the most wholesome addition to any home.

For Duong, this candle recreates the ultimate Roselle smell—one so common in her kitchen that only customers can recognize its strong aroma.

“I’m usually only reminded of that scent when customers tell us how they can smell it from the street,” she writes. “‘What are you baking right now?’ They would ask. ‘Oh… I think it’s just the tart shells.’ I’d say.”

With notes of toasted almonds, powdered sugar, and vanilla, the Freshly Baked Pâte Sucrée Candle perfectly reflects the deliciousness of the sweet, warming scents that Roselle is known and loved for.

Starting this weekend, you can bring home the smell of Roselle with your own Freshly Baked Pâte Sucrée Candle by Brwn Collective. The candles will be available at Roselle’s shop on 362 King St. E. A smaller, tealight version of the candle will also be part of Roselle’s Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea Set, which you can pre-order now on their online shop.
