The Grand Order of Divine Sweets brings fanciful baking to Queen West

Opened in mid-December, The Grand Order of Divine Sweets is a place where the milk is blue, certain cookies are extra “Chewie” and a good deal of wizardry goes into crafting spectacular cakes. From high-end baked goods to imaginative moulded chocolates, a geeky admiration for all things fantasy imbues each indulgent offering with more than a little whimsy.

The café's chocolate Millennium Falcons.

Owned by renowned cake designer Sam Lapointe, of Cakes Cove fame, and video-game industry pro Meridith Braun, the bright, spacious café, called the GOoDs for short, is a tranquil respite from the bustling neighbourhood. Here, the focus is on desserts and sugary confections. There are fresh-baked cookies, muffins and cupcakes alongside a colourful array of chocolates shaped to look like Pokémon balls, Han Solo in carbonite and more. Eschew your regular latte for a Bantha blue milk or Butterbeer and let your fandom shine.

Hand-crafted, chocolate Pokémon balls.

Choose from a daily selection of jewel-toned bakery cakes in flavours like dark spiced rum and peanut butter caramel for impromptu celebrations. For special events, order anything from a “surprise-me” cake, custom cookies or sweet tables (an eye-catching spread of sweets).

The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, in cake form.

Open Tuesday to Sunday, the GOoDs offers a magical escape from the everyday — a place, as the bakery's slogan says, to feed your fandom the sweetest way possible.
