Sakana-Ya has brought its authentic Japanese sushi experience to Scarborough's Majestic City Plaza.

All of Sakana-Ya's seafood and sashimi is flown in from the Tsukiji Market in Japan, then properly stored and handled before being prepared by highly experienced sushi chefs. Sakana-Ya only uses Japanese fish because the fishing methods and product handling in Japan create incomparable taste and freshness.

Sakana-Ya's chef, Tan Hidekatsu, has over 40 years of experience in the fishing industry. Hidekatsu first came to Canada in 1985 when he was sent to purchase marine products overseas and provide technical guidance in production operations for a fishery trading company. In 2005 Hidekatsu moved to Toronto, and since then, he has worked with wholesale companies, fish shops, the fisheries corner at a product supplier and in the seafood retail division. Needless to say, chef Tan Hidekatsu knows his fish!

Sakana-Ya has a range of options to choose from, such as sashimi, omakase boxes, donburi, bara chirashi (mixed rice bowls) and sushi in the form of nigiri, aburi or rolls. Some of their current features are their rainbow roll and Japanese uni (sea urchin). They also make custom sushi and sashimi sets. Orders can be made online or in-store.

Their hours are currently Wednesday to Sunday from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, and they are located at 2900 Markham road.
