This newly opened Japanese cafe offers more than coffee

Opening a cafe during a pandemic is no easy venture, but we are happy to announce that Tsuchi Cafe has officially opened its doors despite hardships. While opening Tsuchi Cafe, the team learned some valuable lessons of how community support can truly impact a small business's outcome.

Located in Little Italy, Tsuchi Cafe is a Japanese owned and operated cafe that also functions as a confectionary and goods shop. They take plant-based goods and transform them to curate a shop. Some of their special offerings include pantry items, baked goods, packaged meals and merchandise.

On the menu, their wide list of options has a little something for everyone, from handmade tantan noodles and house-made condiments to stock your pantry like ponzu, yuzu pepper pesto, sweet onion sauce, mushroom miso spread and umami rayu. Another menu favourite is their Kokuto sugar granola. It is a crunchy, nutrient-dense snack made with buckwheat -- a popular Japanese gluten-free grain, rich in protein, fibre and heart-healthy nutrients. It's the type of thing you can enjoy on it's own or in a bowl with milk.

Now that the colder days are upon us, you better stop by to try chef Haru's hot cocoa! It's made with creamy soy milk, her signature soy whip, Kokuto brown sugar, chocolate syrup and chocolate cookie crumble to top it off.

Check out the rest of their menu in person Wednesday to Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 688 College Street.
