One of Toronto's favourite bakeries has opened its first dine-in Waffle Café and has further plans for expansion.
Butter Baker opened its dine-in café earlier this month, on November 8. The popular bakery expanded its location on Dundas Street West to include a new sit-down space to enjoy brunch and pastries.
"We always wanted to create a cozy space to enjoy our food and spend some quality time with friends and family after shopping," says Tina Su, who co-owns Butter Baker with her brother, Calvin Su.
Tina Su is well-versed in the art of pastries, having graduated from Le Cordon Bleu Ottawa's pastry art program. The menu at Butter Baker's café boasts made-to-order waffles, avocado croffle toast and a smoked salmon croffle benedict (available on weekends only), among a handful of other fresh and decadent creations.
"In 2017, we created Butter Baker with humble ideas in mind, that is to provide a welcoming space for our community to enjoy handcrafted goods and food," she notes.
"We now provide all-day comfort food in a warm and comfortable space. It can be a casual weekend brunch or to hang out with friends after work."
Su teases that an alcohol menu and further expansions are coming to the café soon, too.
"Expansion is definitely in our plan, but we want to make sure Butter Baker grows at a healthy speed at the same time," she says.
Part two of Butter Baker's expansion will include a homeware store: a brick-and-mortar retail space full of Canadian-made crafts, jewellery, gifts and much more. For now, customers can find a new stocking stuffers section on Butter Baker's website for the holidays.
Butter Baker is located at 120 Dundas Street West. The Waffle Café is open Monday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
