Thanks to a new, Toronto-bred startup, you can now customize your dining experience at some of the top restaurants in the city.
The 3D immersive app, called Tablz, allows guests to take a virtual tour through some of the city's top restaurants, from Amal to Afici to Barbounia. Essentially, diners can take a walk through of the restaurant they'd like to visit, select the table they'd like to sit at in 3D, and make a reservation. And, as an added bonus, Tablz allows guests to make these reservations in peak hours and on peak days.
Restaurants that are normally jam-packed and tough to get into become instantly more accessible, and guests pay a fee that ranges from $5 to $100, depending on the restaurant, to maximize the customization of the dining experience. The price to reserve a table at any given restaurant is decided by Tablz’ algorithm, which ensures that the right price for a specific time is offered. Essentially, the app aims to boost restaurant revenues while creating a unique experience for diners.
Of course, the arrangement is designed to benefit both the restaurant and the guest, as it helps restaurants combat rising food and supply costs as well as inflation by allowing them to fill a space without adding extra staff and maximizing the wage hours already being used.
The Toronto-founded app is quickly expanding across North America, partnering with restaurants in major cities like Miami, Chicago, Houston, Ottawa, New York City and more. It allows restaurants in these cities to either participate in a revenue share model or a fee-based subscription model, allowing each eatery to choose the level of participation in Tablz. In Toronto, some of the buzziest restaurants across the trendiest neighbourhoods are signing up, rethinking the way people go to restaurants in the city.
