Just in time for summer’s swelter, King West has a new spot for stylish soft serve, organic scoops and flavoured cones in a kaleidoscope of colours. Now in its soft launch phase, Happy Sundae is what owner Angela Phung calls, “a dessert heaven” where everyone can enjoy a sweet treat.

Opened in late May, Happy Sundae is an ice cream dessert boutique that has taken over a spot at 85 Portland Street, recently occupied by another dessert purveyor, Piccolina Gelato e Altra Roba. Phung is a local entrepreneur and owner of aka.The Store, on Queen Street. With Happy Sundae, she wanted to build a spot that oozes cheer and caters to the whims and wishes of every customer. In keeping with its fashionable owner and neighbourhood, the new spot is also bright and welcoming with neon lights and delicate, pastel-hued floral décor.

On the menu, guests will find a selection of scoop ice cream, from Mapleton’s Organic, along with house-made soft serve. Dairy-free, the all-natural soft serve comes in flavours meant to be garnished with a variety of toppings, ranging from graham bits and shortcake crumbs, to fresh or dried fruit, flavoured crunch mixes, nuts and sprinkles.

The team also makes gluten-free, vegan cones in a rainbow of colours and flavours. Choose your favourite -- between matcha, lavender, red velvet, salted blue corn and orange creamsicle -- then craft your perfect bite. With a team of “sweet artists” on hand to help you build the dessert of your dreams, your imagination is the only limit to your masterpiece. Feeling uninspired? A selection of drippy, dreamy, creamy sundaes are also on offer.

Happy Sundae is open seven days a week, from 1 p.m.
