Alamycravings is baking date stuffed cookies just in time for Ramadan

For the second year in a row, Ramadan is once again occurring during lockdown, making it difficult for individuals from the Muslim community in Toronto to connect with their families during this religious and spiritual time. Ramadan is a month-long celebration of prayer, fasting and self-reflection that Muslims worldwide partake in every year. They fast from sunrise to sundown and break their fasts with special home-cooked family meals.

Alamycravings, a family of food lovers, has decided to sell cookies that reflect the traditional aspects of Muslim families' special foods during Ramadan. This is in hopes that they can still share the love and compassion families may be missing during this eventful time.

Specifically, dates are consumed first when one is breaking their fast. With this in mind, Alamycravings Cafe, who have already been selling cookies since the start of this year, decided to create Medjool date stuffed cookies. These cookies are topped with white chocolate drizzle and hand-crushed pistachios. Consuming dates when breaking one's day long fast is important because it brings your body's glucose level back to normal after a day of no sugar intake. This is a traditional practice that many Muslims have participated in for hundreds of years when fasting for Ramadan. This is why, Alamycravings decided if they wanted to create something special for their customers who celebrate Ramadan, incorporating dates would be essential.

Alamycravings started as a blog to first share halal eats in Toronto and home-cooked recipes. One day they looked at their incredible-looking dinner and thought it would be a missed opportunity not to be posting to their social media. From there, they decided to go on food adventures and showcase local businesses that catered to the Muslim community in Toronto. After tons of feedback from their loyal following, they felt it was right to launch Alamycravings Cafe. This happened one night when they were surfing on Facebook Marketplace and came across caterers, different businesses and eventually cookies. After countless recipe testing, consults with friends and research, they were able to land on a successful cookie dough base to become the starting point of their new venture.

Kinza from Alamycravings Cafe shared that it's important to be thankful for what you have and give back to your community during the month of Ramadan. With this in mind, Alamycravings decided to donate 20% percent of their sales this month to Islamic Relief, a trusted charity that is affiliated with other smaller organizations. These cookies will be available for order starting April 17. For any updates, follow their social media.
