'Approved by Mom': The Good Goods is Toronto's home for Mochi Muffins

With Japanese mochi quickly becoming a big trend in Toronto, there's a seemingly endless amount of mochi based treats to try––but, have you ever heard of mochi muffins?

For some "Mom approved" treats, The Good Goods is your number one spot to get your hands on mochi muffins in Toronto. This home bakery, founded by Queens University graduate Kimberly Ng, is gathering attention on social media for their 'mochins' otherwise known as mochi muffins.

So what are mochins? They are, as the name suggests, a combination between mochi and muffins. Naturally, they have a chewy centre with the muffin itself being crispy. These treats are also gluten-free and vegetarian, making them even better.

Inspired by a friend's mother who offered her baked mochi, Ng decided to follow her entrepreneurial spirit and leave her job as an account manager to pursue her online shop at the start of the pandemic. Initially offering 'quarantine treat boxes' that had a rotating variety of sweets in one package, Kimberly began to recognize that her mochins were a hit.

She began with one flavour: matcha. The Good Goods current menu features six flavours: white chocolate hojicha, black sesame, churro crunch, butter, coffee and of course the OG matcha flavour that started it all.

The Good Goods now offers other Asian inspired treats like matcha or hojicha tiramisu [which Kimberly says is becoming a quiet fan favourite] and basque cheesecakes.

Exclusive to the month of February, is cakes! Purchase their 'Galentine's Bundle' to try these limited edition menu items, alongside other Toronto business goodies, or order them separately.

Lunchbox cakes, cake grams and container cakes can be personalized with short and sweet messages for no additional cost. Find matcha mochi strawberry, strawberry fresh cream and lemon raspberry flavours on the menu.

Be sure to keep an eye out for a future popup collaboration between The Good Goods and fellow home business Patco Cafe at the Upper East Food Club in March. Exclusive to that popup will be new mochin flavour additions to look forward to.

The team at The Good Goods has expanded from just Ng, who still focuses on the baking, to Samantha Chui who takes care of logistics for the business, and a team of three delivery drivers: Reshad Ahmed, Justin Lam and Jason Mak, who Kimberly refers to as being more like family.

The Good Goods offers local delivery in Markham, Richmond Hill, North York and Scarborough for a flat rate of $3 on Saturdays.
