City Bakers Collective banks on pandemic-era success with new brick and mortar shop

A group of like-minded bakers are bringing their family recipes to the Danforth with City Bakers Collective. A curated selection of freshly baked pies, bread, granola and other yummy delights fit right into a neighbourhood that is springing back to life.

What began as a pandemic business, City Bakers Collective, has gone through a few iterations before finding it's "sweet" spot. With plenty of experience in the hospitality industry and a desire to bring together other businesses that needed more exposure, City Bakers Collective was born.

That experience and care are evident when you walk into the store. The bakers can be seen conscientiously measuring, mixing, kneading and dusting while you browse their curated selection. The goal at the end of the day is to have nothing left over and the group continues to learn what the neighbourhood wants and bake to their tastes.

Bayfield Provisions

Bayfield Provisions is the brainchild of Alyssa King and has been on the market for about five years. She offers slow-roasted granola, which is the perfect snack or addition to a morning fruit and yogurt. There are currently five versions available, including a delicious combination of cocoa, espresso and sour cherries.

Jenna King of Bakewell is responsible for most of the sweet treats. Her Double Coconut Cream Pie and Brown Butter Banana Bread are whimsical with a decadent twist. There are also tart lemon bars and crispy, chewy chocolate chunk cookies that rate among the best in the city. Jenna was taught to bake by her grandmother and was an accomplished home baker before finally making her passion into a full-time career.

Alyssa says they knew it would be beneficial to bring in additional products and give more options to a discerning clientele, so they connected with Johnson Family Bakery, whom they immediately found common ground with. They specialize in challah bread and sourdoughs which often feature olives, caramelized onions and gouda. Also new to the collective is Backstage Bakery, which does babkas, cinnamon buns and amazing cheese bread.

City Bakers Collective accepts specialty orders and their website is easily manageable with click and collect pick up times.
