Former Buca employees launch a handmade pasta pop-up

Two former employees of popular Italian restaurant Buca decided to make the best of their situation after being laid off. Luca Lanzafame and Luli Lavdari were the restaurant manager and assistant general manager and, like many, lost their jobs as restrictions kept restaurants closed. However, together they have created Back To The Pasta, a new pasta delivery pop-up.

They both originally came from Italy to Canada a few years ago. After they were let go from Buca, they had a chance to talk about their passions, which included hand-making their own pasta. This led to the idea of starting a small business centred around this very passion.

“We try to be truthful to original classic recipes and what we know best which is traditional Italian food,” says Lanzafame.

They offer a selection of fresh pasta and sauces that they make themselves. They also have specials that change weekly. On the menu, you’ll find pasta like hand-cut tagliatelle, cavatelli, ravioli and gluten-free spaghetti. Sauces include bolognese, seasonal mushroom and arrabbiata. You can also find ready-to-bake lasagna that comes in meat, seafood and vegetarian options.

Back To The Pasta is available for pickup near Danforth and Chester. They also deliver within Toronto every Thursday and Friday. New menùs and specials launch every Thursday at 9 a.m. Be sure to place your order on their Instagram page prior to Wednesday to ensure availability for that particular weekend.
