Learn how to cook a colourful vegan Ethiopian meal through a virtual cooking class

After popular demand, Chic Peas Veg has relaunched their virtual vegan Eritrean/Ethiopian cooking class in celebration of African History Month.

If you haven't indulged in Ethiopian cuisine before, this is the best time to explore it with your loved ones at home. In Ethiopia, meals are traditionally served as shareable platters with several different dishes. These dishes are normally comprised of at least one stew, injera and vegetable dish.

Upon signing up for the cooking class, you will be provided with all the ingredients to follow along and learn about the history behind this flavourful cuisine. The kit will include shiro-spiced ground, chickpeas, berbere spice, yellow split peas, sweet potatoes and 'injera'––a traditional spongy flatbread made with teff flour to accompany the dishes as the base of the platter.

The founder of Chic Peas Veg, Naza Hasebenebi, learned the ins and outs of the Eritrean/Ethiopian cuisine alongside her mother who prepared daily feasts for her family growing up. Her passion lies in teaching others how to prepare delicious vegan meals and snacks while also inviting them to learn about herbs, spices and recipes from across the world. Chic Peas Veg is a plant-based company that offers catering, meal plans, cooking classes and in-school workshops in the Greater Toronto Area. Currently, they are also offering weekend vegan brunch pop-ups that will be available through Uber Eats, SkipTheDishes, Ritual and Nibly starting Feb. 20.
