Patricia Yeboah and her mother Akua Fosua have taken the city by storm with their Ghanaian home-style meals. They have been serving up Ghanaian food at pop ups hosted periodically over the last several months, with their latest pop up on October 3rd at Stackt Market. Mama Akua's have been a huge success, so the mother-daughter duo decided to open yet another pop up at the shipping container market. They will only be here for the next two weeks and will be serving their meals for in shop pick up or delivery via UberEats. Mama Akua's will be open Thursdays to Sundays from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. the rest of this weekend and next.

If you are looking for a taste of authentic Ghanaian food, this is your chance! Check them out on Instagram for updates about the pop-up and operations.

The Space:
Mama Akua's is located right at the edge of Stackt Market on Bathurst Street. It is a bright open space, and the food is served up to customers that have ordered on UberEats for pick up or delivery. Walk in and you can see owner Patricia and her mother mother who the restaurant is named Akua, serve up dishes to go.

The Food:

Mixed spinach stew and egushi cooked in palm oil mixed with fix with boiled yam.

Mama Akua's is serving up classic Ghanaian foods like the popular jollof rice made famous because of a playful feud between Nigerians and Ghanaians who are in constant battle about which country's jollof is the best (seriously, google it). Mama Akua's is also serving classics like boiled yam or boiled plantain with spinach stew, groundnut soup with rice balls, waakye (rice and beans) with stew, and red red a.k.a. fried ripe plantain and beans. Ghanaian food is indulgent, flavourful, homey, filling and will have you coming back for more.

Jollof, rice cooked in tomato stew served with fried beef.

Waakye, rice and beans served with tomato stew, gari and fried fish.

Groundnut soup with rice balls. A peanut and tomato spiced soup served with sticky rice balls.

Most of the meals are made vegan with an option to add in protein like beef, chicken or fish to order. For dessert, customers can order bofrot, a fried dough similar to beignets served with ice cream.

Mama Akua's pop-up is only here from October 29 to November 1 and November 5 to November 8 at 28 Bathurst Unit 1-112.
