New modern eatery in Scarborough will satisfy your craving for Indian food

Attention Indian food enthusiasts––eaTO, a tiny takeout joint, opened its doors in December and is serving up a variety of mouthwatering creations that put a fresh spin on Indian favorites, and incorporate authentic Indian flavours into Western dishes.

eaTO, located at 1960 Lawrence Avenue East in Scarborough, is the vision of Chef Vishal Malhotra, who came to Canada in 2015 from India to pursue his culinary passion. He worked as an executive chef in various restaurants, airlines, as well as at hotels and resorts in Dubai. Malhotra dreamt of opening his own restaurant that would serve both the Indian community, as well as every demographic in Toronto––and that's how eaTO came to be.

Whether you're on the hunt for classic Indian street food like Chaats, Kathi Rolls or Tandoori-spiced items, or are looking to try something completely new, eaTO is sure to delight. This small-but-mighty takeout restaurant serves both classics and modern dishes with a twist.

Not only are their menu items reminiscent of the most popular Indian street food, but, many have a fusion of Indian flavours artfully incorporated into non-traditional items. Momos, poutine, naan pizza, tacos and mac n' cheese (with paneer and butter chicken) are dishes you wouldn't typically find at an Indian eatery, but are foods you can find at this new eatery. By taking concepts from other culinary cultures (and food trends) that are popular across Toronto and combining them with classic Indian ingredients and flavours, eaTO has created a truly unique takeout experience.

"Although we make everything with all our love, for anyone who tries [our food] for the first time, we would recommend trying rice bowls, kathi rolls, naan tacos, momos or street chaats," the eaTO team shared.

Along with their diverse and extensive menu––which includes several vegetarian options––eaTO doesn't disappoint when it comes to sauce selection. No matter your preference, eaTO has a sauce on hand for you. And, if you're hoping to experience some new flavours, you'll have plenty of choices. Options for sauces available to complete your dish include Tandoori Mayo, eaTO Garlic Mayo, Tangy Mayo, eaTO Hot Sauce, Green Mint, Tamarind BBQ, Pink Beetroot and Achari Dip.

Of course, no good meal is complete without a beverage. If you're looking to warm up, a cup of eaTO's fresh Indian Chai Tea would surely do the trick. For a colder classic, their Mango Lassi is the perfect balance of creamy, smooth and cool. If you've saved room, be sure to order some Rasmalai or Gulab Jamun for dessert.

When asked what they had planned for their first year of operation, eaTO says that, "right now, we are working on expanding the menu to add more options of North-Indian street foods and drinks. We plan to expand our locations as well in the future."

If you're in Scarborough and are craving fresh food that was inspired by the streets of India, or, searching various apps for a new takeout spot, head over to eaTO and show the GTA's newest modern Indian eatery some love.

eaTO is available for takeout and delivery on all your favourite food delivery platforms. As the perfect late-night takeout option, they are open from 3 p.m until 2 a.m, Tuesday to Sunday, and 5 p.m until 1 a.m on Mondays.
