A modern Caribbean pop-up is taking over Mahjong bar

YAWD, a new pop-up restaurant is taking over Mahjong Bar's kitchen and will be dishing out modern Caribbean eats for a limited time.

Beginning November 4, the ten day event will feature an array of Afro-Caribbean dishes using French techniques. The new pop-up concept is the brainchild of Top Chef Canada semi-finalist, Adrian Forte. Chef Forte was formerly the executive chef and co-founder of popular fried chicken spot, Dirty Bird Chicken & Waffles and was the mastermind behind Parkdale's smashburger hotspot, Aunty Lucy's Burgers.

The menu of his latest pop-up is playful and innovative and features many Caribbean favourites with a twist, including jerk chicken coq au vin, oxtail with cassava gnocchi and red wine au jus, vegan mushroom doubles and plantain beignets.

"As the restaurant world settles into its new normal, we couldn’t think of a better way to give back than providing our community with some much needed culinary escapism," says chef Adrian Forte.

"I think we all can agree that gathering around the table to enjoy a beautiful meal brings people together, these days things may look a little different and I hope we are able to provide a memorable dining experience in the comfort of your own home," he continues.

YAWD will be available for pick-up only as of right now, though they're looking to offer delivery through UberEats in the near future.

Pre-orders are open now but the pop- up officially starts tomorrow and will be running until November 14. Located at 1276 Dundas St West will be open everyday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
