A new falafel pop-up is happening on Ossington this weekend

This weekend, an exciting newcomer is arriving to the already-stacked and trendy strip of Ossington between Dundas and Queen.

Safta's Falafel is a pop-up launching on Ossington this Sunday, August 16, serving up what is sure to be some ridiculously delicious Middle Eastern-inspired food. Created through a partnership between Haan Palcu-Chang, a chef at Favorites Thai, and his friend Jan, the falafel is inspired by her "safta" (Hebrew for grandmother) Janette's version, homemade with love and nostalgia.

Although our city is home to several top-notch Middle Eastern spots to snag falafels, Safta's is unique in a few ways. Firstly, every aspect of the single dish that they serve is made from scratch, so they are essentially picking one thing and doing it extremely well, which is a less common concept amidst the sea of options we are usually faced with at restaurants. Secondly, they will be popping up across Toronto following their first day of service on Ossington this Sunday. So hungry falafel lovers across the city will have the chance to get their hands on this delectable treat over the coming months.

Their crispy falafel balls are relatively small in terms of the menu, made from scratch and infused with the traditional herbs and spices of Middle Eastern cuisine before being delicately fried. They are tucked into an impossibly fluffy house-made pita and adorned with a chopped cucumber and tomato salad, a silky tahini sauce, pickled veg and slaw. Because everything is made from scratch, all of the flavours are made to meld together perfectly, making for an authentic, flavourful and ultra-delicious experience.

Grab your card, a mask and a hefty appetite and head over to 141 Ossington this Sunday to experience Safta's Falafel from 12-4 p.m. and support a small (and delicious) new business. Keep your eye out for their pop-up across the city in the coming weeks, too!
