A new international tapas spot is open in the Annex

Industry Snack Bar is a new tapas restaurant and bar that opened earlier this year.

Located in the Annex neighbourhood, the restaurant is run by chef Tiago Pablo, who has more than 15 years of experience in the hospitality industry. Industry Snack Bar focuses on international small plates and craft cocktails using only the freshest ingredients sourced from local farms and suppliers.

The inspiration for Industry Snack bar was a combination of my family's upbringing and living in the beautiful multicultural city of Toronto,” Tiago says. “My family came here like many Canadians, after being uprooted during the war in Angola, which sent them as refugees to Portugal and eventually brought them and myself to Canada.”

The regular menu is a mix of some of the most popular tapas from around the world, including oysters by the half-dozen or dozen, Brazilian steak frites, patatas bravas, crispy Korean calamari, Moroccan baked cauliflower, Japanese grilled octopus, birria bao buns, and smoked Tennessee wings. Whatever you’re craving, the diversity of the menu offers something for every budget.

For those looking for a new brunch spot in the city, Industry Snack Bar does brunch every weekend. Alongside a mix of sweet and savoury options like the thick and fluffy blueberry pancakes or the crispy fried chicken and waffles soaked in maple syrup, one of the major highlights on the menu is their bottomless mimosas. For $35, you can enjoy as many as you’d like within a two-hour time limit!

Industry Snack Bar also offers several deals throughout the week. On Tuesdays, there’s the taco and tequila service, where diners can opt for the “endless service” for $35 with the purchase of a drink. On this day, tequila shots are just $5, too. If you plan on eating more than five tacos (a la carte for $7), it’s a great deal! There are seven tacos on the menu, including two options for vegetarians and vegans: the Moroccan cauliflower with sumac crema, toasted pistachios and cotija cheese, and the beet and watercress crema done with pan seared beets, watercress crema, cotija cheese, pico de gallo and crispy shallots.

Wednesdays are also busy thanks to the buck-a-shuck, where all oysters are just $1 with the purchase of a cocktail. Much like its food menu, the cocktail menu is a nod to global libations, with inventions like the Stone Temple Doom, which uses spirits including plum infused Marquis de Villard V.S.O.P. brandy, house red wine, and Crème de cassis, or The Toronto, which uses Monkey Shoulder premium Scotch whisky, sweet Vermouth and angostura bitters. Of course, you can’t go wrong with a refreshing mint mojito, or wind down after work with a classic Old Fashioned.

Industry Snack Bar is located at 594 Bloor St. W. and is open Tuesday to Thursday from 4 p.m. until 12 a.m., Friday from 4 p.m. until 2 a.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and Sunday and Monday from 9 a.m. until 12 a.m.
