A new restaurant for Georgian fare has landed in the Beaches

There are limited places for Georgian fare in and around Toronto's core, but thankfully, a new restaurant has just opened in the Beaches serving platters of authentic Georgian cuisine.

Tiflisi is a family-owned restaurant, which has successfully operated as a chain of Georgian restaurants in Ukraine for the past eight years now. This family-owned business has spent years collecting recipes for authentic Georgian dishes such as BBQ kebabs, khinkali, pkhali and khachapuri -- and have finally opened a Toronto outpost.

Georgian cuisine is somewhat underrated in Toronto and is heavily influenced by neighbouring regions like Turkey, Greece and other Mediterranean cultures. The most popular dishes are khinkali, meat-filled dumplings that are similar to Chinese xiaolongbao. Pkhali is a ground vegetable pate that is pounded with walnuts, garlic and other spices. They also have khachapuri, which is a cheese-filled bread that looks similar to pide. And there are always massive platters of meat kebabs as well.

Tiflisi is located at 1970 Queen St East and is open every day from 11 a.m. to 8.pm. They are open until 9 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. They are only open for takeout and delivery right now, due to current restrictions, directly through their website or through UberEats and Ritual.
