A retro-style drive-in diner is arriving in Toronto

A new retro drive-in dining experience is set to hit Toronto this month.

Dusty Star Drive-In Diner is a pop-up that will be looking to give Torontonians of taste of life in the 50s, 60s and 70s. The outdoor popup will allow you to pull into a parking spot or reserve a picnic table and be served by "carhop" servers on roller skates. The first weekend for the pop-up is set for August 13-15.

On the menu, you'll find diner staples like burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, fries and shakes. Their classic burger is a quintessential diner smash burger with aged cheddar, bacon and pickles on a Martins potato roll. They will also have a fried chicken sandwich, as well as a steak sandwich with bone marrow and a chimichurri on top.

You can also find chilli cheese dogs, corn dogs or a Super Empanada hot dog topped with spicy beef, cheese and chimichurri rojo. Grab some fries or poutines on the side and be sure to wash it all down with a classic root beer float or a milkshake of your choice, between vanilla or chocolate.

There will also be a bar sponsored by Hop City Brewery and several vendors selling vintage clothes, artisanal goods, handmade wares and other merchandise as well.

The Dusty Star pop-up will be located at 1245 Dupont Street in the Galleria Mall back parking lot just beside Emerson Wallace Park. Times will vary based on the date of your reservation but will be anywhere from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m., depending on the day. Tickets need to be purchased for each car or picnic table reservation (food is separate) and can be purchased through their website. Be sure to book tickets in advance as they may sell out quickly.
