Beloved Japanese restaurant on Harbord Street set to close this week

Opening back in 2017 along a cozy strip on Harbord Street, Skippa quickly became a big name in Toronto. Continuously making Canada's 100 Best list for their seasonal, market-driven menu, this Japanese restaurant owned and lead by chef Ian Robinson is set to quietly close their doors this week.

Skippa's last day of service will be this Saturday, Dec. 18. The restaurant is permanently closing as a result of Chef Robinson's decision to move to Japan. Already impossible to secure a reservation, spots for this last week sold out only minutes after their release two weeks ago. Those looking to dine at Skippa one last time, can still remain hopeful for last minute seats by joining their waitlist on Tock.

Known for apprenticing under one of Toronto's legendary omakase spots, Sushi Kaji by acclaimed chef Mitsuhiro Kaji, chef Robinson later opened Skippa to pave his own path in Toronto's competitive food landscape. A menu prominent for its use of local produce and fish sourced from Fukuoka Fish Market in Japan, their ever-changing seasonal menu notably adapted into elegant wooden take home boxes during pandemic lockdowns, will surely be missed by many.
