If your weekend plans lack excitement, fire them up with a dose of Nashville hot chicken from Chen Chen’s.
You’ll find the fried-chicken favourite at the helm of Cheese Boutique’s food truck this weekend, doling out their fervour-inducing, southern-style hot chicken sandwiches and sides.
Since December, Cheese Boutique’s food truck has played host to some of the city’s most popular chefs and restaurants. Everyone from chefs Victor Barry and Romain Avril, to businesses including La Palma, Kitchen Guerilla, Petisco Kitchen and more, have run pop-ups out of the coveted spot. Parked across from the Cheese Boutique at 6 Ripley Avenue, the truck is both a destination in itself, and the perfect spot to recharge post-shopping.

Tomorrow (May 9) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., or until sold out, local spot Chen Chen’s Nashville Hot Chicken will be serving up a concise menu of chicken sandwiches out of the Cheese Boutique food truck. Opt for the original Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich or a Szechuan version, in a variety of heat levels ranging from no-spice southern, to something called 'poultrygeist', an appropriately hair-raising way to say EXTRA hot.
Every sandwich starts with a buttermilk-brined chicken thigh that’s then fried until golden and shatteringly crisp, spiced to each customer’s liking and garnished with slaw, pickles and homemade aioli. On the side? Friends don't let friends walk away without an order of creamy potato salad or mac n' cheese, both garnished with real bacon bits.

Masks are mandatory for anyone waiting in line and COVID safety protocols will be in place. For anyone who misses out, Chen Chen’s full menu of southern bites, including sandwiches, tenders, dirty fries and more, can all be found at the restaurant’s new location at 1184 Queen Street West.
