Torontonians, say goodbye to another one of the city's long-time dining establishments.
Late last Friday night, Clinton's Tavern -- an iconic spot on Bloor Street West -- announced its immediate closure on social media. The legendary watering hole, which first opened in 1937, has been a local hot-spot and venue for almost 85 years.
The goodbye post on the bar's Instagram reads, "Behind the scenes, we've been fighting a tireless battle to keep our doors open -- trying to push beyond lies and greed, trying to ignore the carelessness of the owner, and trying to work for each other because we all love Clinton's fiercely... In the end, there was nothing we could do."
The post continues to explain the long-term hardships the restaurant has faced, including the staff not accepting pay to help keep the bar open. In a final plea, they urge potential investors to consider donating to keep the mainstay open.
Despite whatever troubles the business went through, it was still a popular spot with loyal customers. Often hosting jam-packed events and consistently maintaining a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
While we may be saying goodbye for now, who knows what the future will hold. In the meantime, the venue has canceled all future events.
