Cool new cocktail bar opens on King West

There's a laid back, intimate new bar in town, serving up simple drinks, snacks and share plates!

Lazy Bear opened at 387 King Street West just before Christmas, featuring a selection of "drinkies, snackies, sharesies, and zerts" on its menu.

The menu includes house cocktails like the Black Bear, a gin-based drink with blackberry, the Honey Bear, which incorporates whisky, egg whites and, of course, honey syrup, and the Lazy G&T with strawberry and basil. The drink menu extends to seasonal cocktails, wine, and bubbles.

As for food, the curated "snackies" section lists simple small plates such as the Artisan Sourdough with whipped butter, the Lazy Labneh with strained yogurt, preserved lemon, and rosewood honey, and even fresh oysters, truffle fries, and burrata.

Charcuterie and mezze boards, calamari, flatbread, chicken kebab and okonomiyaki, or savoury Japanese pancakes, are available for share plates, or "sharesies", while a Basque cheesecake or artisan cheese selection make up the "zerts".

The cute, relaxed concept is spearheaded by General Manager James (Jimmy) Atasoy, who started as a chef at the now closed Wish Restaurant. Atasoy has since ventured into general manager territory, and has led the gastropub Morgan's On The Danforth for more than a year now. Atasoy and his partner Brynna have built Lazy Bear on a budget.

The space boasts an intimate aesthetic and late hours, with low lighting and candles throughout, encouraging date nights or friend hangs. Visitors can look forward to an upgraded menu soon, as Lazy Bear prepares for patio season and summer.

Lazy Bear is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Keep up with Lazy Bear on Instagram.
