Decadent new dessert cafe opens in the west end

Bloor Street West just got a little sweeter, with fresh crepes, waffles and ice cream galore!

Caramel Cafe recently opened its doors at 1059 Bloor Street West. The dessert cafe, which first opened in Bolton in 2018, serves an assortment of sweet treats with cozy sit-down and takeout options.

The cafe prides itself on quality and experience, boasting a southern Italian coffee roast with caramel-like sweetness, and aiming for a European vibe. With an expanded menu from its Bolton location and an array of dishes to choose from, co-owners Leila Hussein and Ali Abdolrazzak bring their passions for cooking, baking and business to the new location.

"We want people to feel like they’re sitting in a cafe in Paris," says Hussein. "Enjoy crepes, and desserts, drizzled with Belgian chocolate of the highest quality, with French music playing in the background."

Hussein notes that everything is made in-house at Caramel Cafe, from the batter to the sauces.

"We’re known in Bolton for having fluffy and crispy waffles and we wanted to bring that to Toronto," she says.

Caramel Cafe's menu ranges from classic waffles and crepes, to ice cream and specialty drinks, and even all-day breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. Caramel is a major theme throughout, appearing in items such as the Dulce De Caramel waffle or crepe, Le Caramel Pancake, slices of Caramel Pecan and Carrot Caramel Cheesecake, and even caramel-inspired sundaes and frappes.

According to Hussein, one menu item that has been especially popular in the cafe's short time in Toronto so far has been the Chai Karak - a milk tea infused with cardamom. Hussein notes that this a popular drink in the Gulf area, and one of Abdolrazzak's specialties.

"I always loved to bake cakes and make desserts and when I met Ali, we were able to blend our passions to create Caramel," says Hussein.

The expansion doesn't stop here - Hussein and Abdolrazzak plan to open several more Caramel Cafe locations in Etobicoke, Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington, and in Hussein's hometown, Montreal.
