Oremi Nigerian Cuisine pop-up returns to Toronto

After the success of the first Oremi pop-up event on March 27, Chef Imoteda is bringing back her specialty Nigerian fine dining experience for a second night on April 24.

Like the previous Oremi pop-up, the event will feature a full five-course meal, including appetizers, dessert, prosecco and some of Chef Imoteda's signature cocktails. Imoteda is whipping up a whole new menu for the second installment, of course, each showcasing a broad variety of cultural flavors and influences Chef Imoteda brings to the table.

To start, the first course offers a variety of small chops, Nigerian finger foods, including meat pies, akara, a West-African green pea fritter, fried plantain mosa, and roasted pepper sauce. Next comes the soup, a seafood pepper soup with calamari, mussels, shrimp, and fish in a hearty spiced broth.

The third course features seared duck breast and eggplant served with oseoji, a Nigerian spicy peanut butter sauce. And if that’s not enough, the main course is asaro, a warm-spiced yam porridge served with braised lamb, goat cheese, and a salad on the side. Then to finish, Chef Imoteda offers a dessert of homemade banana bread a la mode with yaji vanilla ice cream, chocolate mousse, and topped with salted caramel.

This is Chef Adetomi “Imoteda” Aladeokomo’s second Oremi pop-up full course fine dining event this season. Oremi means “my friend” in Yoruba, a language spoken in Nigeria and other parts of West Africa. Last summer, Chef Imoteda moved to the GTA from Lagos, Nigeria, and has been showcasing her Le Cordon Bleu-trained culinary skills across Toronto ever since.

You can find the Oremi pop-up at Le Dolci in the Junction at 12 Sousa Mendes Street, Toronto, on Sunday, April 24. Tickets are available here.
