Popeyes' famous Fried Chicken Sandwich comes to Toronto

Popeyes is finally rolling out their highly anticipated fried chicken sandwich in Toronto and the rest of Canada starting Monday, September 14.

The viral chicken sandwich broke the internet last year after causing a frenzy across the U.S. -- giving Chick-fil-A, one of America's largest fried chicken fast-food chains, a run for their money and rapidly selling out company-wide.

The famous chicken sandwich even received critical acclaim by Time Magazine, writing that it was "worth the hype" and the lines, despite being a common offering among other fast-food restaurants.

With a global pandemic still wearing on, Popeyes Canada general manager Rob Manuel has ensured that franchisees will add physical distancing stickers both inside and outside restaurants to control crowds and direct customers to comply with public health measures.

Over the past few months, several Popeyes locations in Alberta and Southern Ontario have already been piloting the sandwich, which was proven to be a huge success.

"With more than three years of research, taste panels and market-tests invested in the development of our Chicken Sandwich, we're confident that Canadians will make it a favourite menu item and embrace it as their own," said Manuel.

Using the same Popeyes recipe of over 50 years, the sandwich features chicken breast marinated in a blend of Louisiana seasonings for at least 12 hours, hand-battered and breaded in a buttermilk coating before being slow-cooked. The fried chicken is then topped with pickles, plain or spicy mayonnaise between a toasted brioche bun.

Popeyes' wildly popular fried chicken sandwich will be available on menus in 230 restaurant locations across the country and food delivery apps starting Monday.
