Royal Wonton is a new home-based Chinese wonton business by mother-daughter duo Susan Woo and Tiffany Leung.

Wontons have been a go-to meal in their household for ages. When COVID-19 lockdowns began happening and getting their fix from local restaurants became more difficult, the duo began bonding over their time creating wontons from family recipes together.

Wontons are often said to be one of the most endearing dishes in Chinese cuisine. Presently, there are so many variations of this cherished meal, as they are the result of so much heritage and history.

Delicate and delicious, wontons are a traditional comfort food staple in many Chinese restaurants, with their existence dating back to the Qing Dynasty (1644). Despite being small in size, their filling is always tender and packed with so much flavour, which Woo and Leung heighten through their integration of ingredients beloved in their own kitchen -- namely, snow pea leaves and truffle salt.

"My mom loves to cook and I love eating the wontons she makes," Leung says. "Once she started experimenting with their flavours by adding in truffle salt, I thought they just tasted better than any other wontons we could buy."

Leung began taking notice of many family members and friends wanting to stock up on her mother's wontons during the pandemic and as of two months ago, they finally decided to start selling them locally.

If you're trying their wontons for the first time, Leung recommends ordering the Royal Jumbo with Extra Shrimp, as she says the extra shrimp makes the wontons even more flavourful.

Royal Wonton hopes to expand its menu to integrate even more varieties of wontons, including vegetarian and halal-friendly options. Until then, you can enjoy their current menu which offers four delicious options: Pork, Tiger Shrimp and Pork, Royal Jumbo with Snow Pea Leaves and Royal Jumbo with extra Tiger Shrimp.

Wontons come frozen and only take between five to ten minutes to boil and are ready for consumption. They can be served on their own, with broth or even fried to give them a perfect crunch.

Find Royal Wonton on Instagram and DM them to order your handmade wontons for pick up or delivery.
