Scout is bringing sustainable, locally sourced craft seafood in a can to North America

Updated: over 3 years ago

October is National Seafood Month and Scout is celebrating with the launch of their new responsibly sourced and culinary forward craft canned seafood line.

Scout is the first leading seafood cannery using 100% regionally sourced seafood. Working directly with a network of small-scale fisheries and sustainable farms from coast to coast, Scout’s mission is to become the most trusted seafood brand in North America.

Not only is Scout committed to bringing a local offering to the canning market that is responsibly sourced, but they are also equally investing in protecting ocean health. The commitment to ocean health includes a donation of profits to non-profit partners that work to protect the oceans and local waterways via 1% for the Planet, an organization whose members contribute a portion of their annual sales to environmental causes.

The sales of canned fish, meat and seafood have climbed 199% since March 1, due in part to COVID-19. More than ever, Canadians are encouraged to take a closer look at our local food supply chain and turn to conservas culture.

Scout is reimagining canned fish by giving consumers healthy options that are both sustainable and delicious. Scout is eager to shift the consumer mindset to adopt European conservas culture, similar to the locally sourced conservas as the Spanish and Portuguese have done for centuries.

But sustainability doesn’t come second to taste; each seafood product is hand-cut, hand-packed and flavoured using recipes developed by Scout’s co-founder and acclaimed chef Charlotte Langley.

Chef Charlotte Langley is an advocate for sustainable seafood and has worked in some of Canada's most creative seafood kitchens, including Whalesbone and C Restaurant. Recipes for the product line were crafted by Chef Langley for quick and easy at-home chef-style meals, including Scout's signature Lobster Roll, Mussell Grilled Cheese or Tuna Noodle Caboodle

Scout’s launch collection includes Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Certified garden pesto Albacore Tuna from the Pacific Northwest; Prince Edward Island mussels in smoked paprika and fennel tomato sauce; MSC Certified Atlantic lobster and Ontario trout with dill.

Scout is shipping their products through their website across North America, and can be found at Farm Boy’s Lake Shore Boulevard and Etobicoke locations. You can also find Scout in specialty retailers like Forno Cultura, Prairie Boy Bakery, 100KM Foods, The Walton and Beast Bodega, to name a few!
