As restrictions loosen in the city and we move into step three of Ontario's reopening plan where restaurants can finally invite guests back inside their space for indoor dining, many new food concepts started during lockdowns to help restaurants survive are beginning to meet their end.
The most recent closure is Don Pollo, a casual Sinaloa-style chicken pop-up by high-end Mexican restaurant Quetzal. Posting to their Instagram earlier today, the group says that their last day of service will be this Sunday, July 25.
As mentioned in their Instagram post, their decision to close indefinitely sprung from having to resume their focus on Quetzal, which focuses on dining in rather than takeout.
Fans of Don Pollo flood the restaurant's comment section with hopes that Quetzal will start offering their popular chicken from the pop-up on the main menu sometime soon.
With the city continuing to open up, the focus for restaurants slowly begins to shift from catering to takeout to catering to guests wanting to dine in person. Naturally, this change is resulting in many takeout concepts started over the past year trickling off the radar. Don Pollo isn't the first and won't be the last to go.
