This Spirited Away-inspired gingerbread house is on display at a Toronto restaurant

Putting together a gingerbread house is no easy feat, especially if you’re trying to replicate the iconic bathhouse from the popular anime Spirited Away. But that’s exactly what Betty Shin Binon did.

Binon is a Toronto-based photographer, videographer, recipe developer, botanical sculptor and stylist showcasing all of her talents through her brand Stems & Forks. The brand came about in 2017 after she sold her successful floral design business that was around for almost 20 years.

This gave her more time to spend with her family and master her craft, which is evident through multiple works featured in International publications like Vogue Greece and enRoute by Air Canada and her most recent creation, a large-scale gingerbread house.

The masterpiece came to life after Binon’s 14-year old daughter Moineau, an avid fan of the Spirited Away animator Hayao Miyazaki, suggested that she should recreate the bathhouse of the Studio Ghibli film as her final bake of the year.

Assembled using Bulk Barn products including materials and tools, Binon was able to capture the film’s stunning visuals through the gingerbread house.

You can view this jaw-dropping creation on Binon’s Instagram or at the newly opened Minami on King West.
