This chef tried 700 burgers from around the world before launching his own

After sampling more than 700 hamburgers on a global scale, Chef Joe Friday's first solo restaurant venture is now open with two locations in Toronto.

Friday Burger Company is a gourmet fast food concept that features Chef Friday’s signature burger, a recipe that took him two decades to perfect, alongside other homemade dishes including chicken sandwiches, salads, sides, milkshakes and more.

Born in North Carolina but raised in Okinawa, Japan, chef Friday started his career as a chef after graduating from The Culinary Institute of America in New York in Restaurant Management, where he trained in French cuisine. At the age of 20, he was selected as one of 10 worldwide individuals invited to train at Walt Disney World's culinary program. Despite working in a series of Michelin restaurants and interacting with cuisines from France to Hawaii, chef Friday's go-to meal remains the humble burger.

“Opening Friday Burger Company, a restaurant dedicated to the art of the classic burger and comfort food, has been a long-time dream of mine,” said Friday. “Every Friday Burger is handcrafted, fresh and made using only the highest quality and local ingredients. I truly believe they are good for the soul and I can’t wait for Torontonians to taste the new best burger in town!”

With four mouth-watering burger choices, including the Friday Burger, the Double Friday Burger, the Chili Cheeseburger, and the Mushroom Burger (vegetarian), the menu was designed to satisfy and impress all burger lovers.

For those who want something that's not beef, Friday Burger Company makes a mean Southern-inspired buttermilk fried chicken sandwich as well as a Nashville hot chicken sandwich. There's also ooey-gooey grilled cheeses and grilled chicken sandwiches for those looking for a healthier option.

Save room for the sides though, because you don't want to miss other comfort food classics, like crunchy fried pickles, chilli cheese fries, poutine and onion rings. 

The menu also features a variety of hand spun milkshakes, craft beverages, and American style pudding. 

Friday Burger Company is located at 81 Bay Street on the 4th Floor, inside TABLE Fare + Social and at 2162 Danforth Ave. The Bay St. location is open Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. while the Danforth location is open Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
