This new handcrafted creamery tops their ice cream with cheese

If a generous sprinkling of cheese would be the last thing you'd ever imagine yourself topping your ice cream with, there is now a destination to try the unlikely, yet delicious pairing.

Jops Creamery is Canada’s first famous Ecuadorian ice cream with cheese brand and has officially opened a location on Yonge Street.

The shop makes handcrafted premium ice cream with a cheesy twist. Their artisan ice creams are sprinkled with fresh Latino cheese and fluffy whipped cream.

They have a range of ice cream flavours, including the classics like vanilla, strawberry and chocolate. They also have some more unique ones such as coconut, cappuccino, cookies and cream and pistachio almond. Last but not least, they have two sorbet options: mango and raspberry.

For those of you who would prefer to keep your cheese and ice cream separate, their Cheers, Double, Triple, Pint or Kiddie menu options are perfect for you. However, for the more adventurous customers, you can either order a Jops Waffle, a Super Jops, a Jops Cup or the Toronto Favourite. Each selection varies in scoops, but they all include their signature Latino cheese. For instance, the Toronto Favourite is two scoops of ice cream served in a cup with a fresh fruit base, topped with homemade whipped cream, Latino cheese and your choice of sundae syrup or extra toppings (free of charge).

According to the the owner, Joel Orellana, this is a popular dessert in South America, more specifically, in Ecuador. The cheese is a perfect balance of sweet and salty, which is why it is used in many traditional South American dishes.

Jops Creamery is located within Hangry Burger at 437 Yonge Street. They are open from Monday to Thursday from 2:00 pm to 11:00 pm and Friday to Sunday from 12:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
