This popular Toronto restaurant also houses a secret speakeasy

The secret, George Restaurant says, is out of the bag. The popular eatery is drawing back the curtains, revealing what they refer to as "Toronto’s hidden gem - emphasis on the 'hidden.'” Secrette on Queen is the French-inspired speakeasy built to serve up all the cocktails the city has come to love.

Colourful and vibrant cocktails dot a speakeasy menu that offers unique spins on traditional drinks, including a Cranberry Mary Old Fashioned that's seasoned with burnt rosemary, a gin-based cocktail called the Pea Flower G&TGIF, and countless other seasonal offerings including the Hibiscus Clove Negroni.

Secrette's cocktail menu changes with the seasons, with each quarter of the year offering something that highlights the vibe and flavours of the months. The offerings are divided into flavour profiles, including refreshing, spirit forward and more. A rotating selection of bartender's choice wine and beer is also available. And, for those who choose not to consume alcohol (for whatever reason), there's a mocktail menu that's sure to impress and satisfy the tastebuds. Options include the Picaflores Lemonade, which is made with hibiscus pepper honey, lime, soda and ginger, as well as the Provençal Garden, crafted with Seedlip Garden, Provençal Cordial, cucumber, lime and soda.

Everything is offered in an ornate, luxe space, ringing true of a French-style bar with red velvet chairs and intricately-framed artwork hanging on darkly-coloured walls. One particular piece of art features an oil painting of a man with his index finger raised over his mouth, miming the signal for "don't tell." The bar is also designed with an antique book motif, creating an intimate place to wind down and enjoy craft cocktails and share plates made by George Restaurant's Chef Lorenzo.

Secrette is located at 111C Queen Street East, and is open from Wednesday to Saturday from 5:30 p.m. until midnight.
