Toronto just got it's first AYCE Japanese Hot Pot

Daimaru Sukiyaki is the sister restaurant of the popular chain Gyubee Japanese Grill, and is the first all-you-can-eat Sukiyaki and Shabu Shabu restaurant in Toronto and the GTA.

After a few years of development, the team behind Gyubee had decided to open the new concept since it didn't exist yet. Shabu Shabu is the term for Japanese hot pot, while sukiyaki is thinly sliced beef simmered in a sweet sauce. That fusion can be found on the menu here. Daimaru Sukiyaki had its grand opening on Jan. 31 and has since been met with massive waitlists and busy nights every week.

Though there are many hotpot options in Toronto already, the differences are noticeable at Daimaru. Their most popular broths like the Sukiyaki, soy milk, Ox bone and kelp, are meant to be light but so that it enhances the quality of the meats and vegetables provided. Along with a basic and premium set, they also offer patrons the choice of AYCE wagyu beef, which is renowned for its marbling and flavour.

On the menu, you'll find a wide array of various meats to choose from with a particular focus on beef like premium brisket, chuck and wagyu. They also offer some seafood options like shrimp, squid and fish. You'll also have your choice of various different veggies, noodles, starches and dumplings as well. Every customer also gets their choice of dipping sauces, which include garlic soy, sesame and raw eggs for dipping.

"We believe that the essence of Japanese hot pot lies in the simplicity of fresh ingredients, and our broths are made to complement the natural flavours of our premium ingredients," said a representative. "In order to bring customers the best quality of food and service, we test all broths the night before we open, as well as the ingredients."

You can find Daimaru Sukiyaki at 390 Silver Star Bloulevard in Scarborough. They're open everyday from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m., and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Despite having just opened for a week, the lineups have been absolutely bonkers. They aren't taking reservations for parties under six people, so be sure to hop on the waitlist if you're looking to try.
