Toronto Thai restaurant rebrands to honour their head chef

One of the city’s most authentic Thai restaurants has rebranded to honour their head chef, Chef Pii Nong, who has done everything imaginable throughout the pandemic to help their business stay afloat.

Chef Pii Nong, who also goes by the name of Chef Nana, has been working as the head chef at BuaBua Thai since they first opened in Leaside near Bayview and Eglinton back in September 2019.

Since then, they’ve been overwhelmed by the amount of support from their surrounding communities. This has not only been tough on a young restaurant like theirs but also Chef Nana, who’s had to work tirelessly to make ends meet and keep their business alive.

With all that has happened over the past couple of months, the people behind BuaBua Thai believed that it was only fitting to change the name of their restaurant to Pii Nong Thai for all that Chef Nana has done.

To celebrate their rebranding, they’re launching new menu items in addition to their existing Bangkok-style street food dishes and desserts.

New to the menu are some of Chef Nana’s top sellers when she first operated out of a small street food stall back in Thailand. This includes crispy and lightly battered Thai Wings that come with a homemade tamarind dipping sauce.

Chef Nana has always dreamed of having a restaurant named after her and it’s safe to say that this dream has finally come true.
