We can't stop talking about birria; whether it be from a coveted pop-up or taqueria, everyone seems to want in on Toronto's latest food craze, including Emenel Birria, the city's go-to destination for DIY taco kits.

Another home-grown business, Emenel Birria, offers a pre-packaged kit with everything you need to whip up your own birria tacos at home.

Started by Leina Elfaki and Motez, Emenel Birria marks the duo's first foray into the food industry. After a trip to LA and eating some undeniably out-of-this-world tacos, Leina came back to Mississauga, disappointed that the options for birria were seemingly lacklustre at the time.

After devoting themselves to researching and cooking the best possible birria they could whip up at home, their friends and family urged them to start their own birria business.

Not only was the quality of the birria itself important to business partners but elevating the takeout experience as a whole was imperative, especially considering our current environment.

"We started the company with the goal of providing a way to enjoy fresh, delicious and crispy birria tacos at home. No more cold and soggy tacos after making the trip home from takeout. We also wanted the process to be as quick and easy as possible for people with no cooking experience," explains Leina.

Although birria is traditionally made from goat or mutton, Emenel Birria has opted for a beef stew. Included in the kit comes birria beef, birria consommé, cheese, eight yellow corn tortillas, birria chili oil, chopped cilantro, diced white onions and lime. The kit feeds two people and is priced at $40, with the option to purchase extra add-ons.

Right now, the venture is solely operating as an Instagram-driven business, with pre-orders being placed via DM and pickup details and payment provided through messaging.

When asked about the future of their business, Leina elaborated on exciting things to come.

"We look forward to expanding in so many ways in the future, and definitely want to open a storefront. In our immediate future, we would like to start by having a pop-up this year, hopefully in the form of a food truck."
