Your new spot for Cantonese cuisine and dim sum in downtown Toronto

Atrium on Bay is now home to Moon Palace Cantonese Cuisine. Just a few steps shy of Yonge and Dundas Square, this new Chinese restaurant with an upscale environment opened in January and specializes in Cantonese favourites and dim sum, which they make fresh every day.

Launched by a family of restauranteurs, who own various spots all over Ontario, each dish is pioneered and executed by a veteran in the industry. Chef Ken Tung has a lifetime of experience working with traditional Cantonese cuisine over the years throughout Mainland China and Canada.

With Cantonese cuisine being a massive part of the owners' heritage, showcasing the food they know and love in the heart of the city, complimented with a hospitable dining experience is the goal for the group.

Making it even better, this new space also comes with outdoor seating. Indoors, they can seat over 200 people, but once it's safe to do so, Moon Palace looks forward to welcoming you to enjoy their exclusive patio menu for those dining outdoors.

"Having a patio on street level is a rare commodity, so we’re excited for everyone in the area to come enjoy our authentic Cantonese dishes, check out the view and enjoy a beer," said Adam Knights, a representative of the restaurant group.

Due to the in-depth knowledge and level of comfortability Chef Tung has with traditional Cantonese cuisine, he's been able to help the restaurant experiment with new combinations and styles of preparing familiar favourites. As a result, the dishes they're executing at Moon Palace fit the focus of the restaurant and the rare position they're in––they are their own direct suppliers in accessing fresh Canadian seafood.

"We're the supplier. We source fresh East coast Canadian lobster on a weekly basis. This allows us to be competitive and also gives us a unique approach to our food. Our soul is fresh quality ingredients for reasonable prices," said Knights.

Their easy access to a variety of seafood further enables them to get creative with their proteins, putting a modern spin on traditional Cantonese dishes.

Out of all the options to choose from on their menu, the most acclaimed are the ones which feature Cantonese-style lobster.

This delicacy can be found across a handful of their dishes, including their two promotional combos. One of the offers, suitable for four diners and large in presentation, is called the Typhoon Lobster Combo and comes with a tender stir-fried double lobster which can be prepared in one of three ways: with Maggi seasoning sauce, garlic and green onions or with 'supreme' broth.

Accompanying this juicy double lobster is Chinese-style diced beef tenderloin, an assortment of vegetables stir-fried with garlic to really accentuate their flavour. Yang Chow fried rice, which is a popular wok-fried rice filled with seafood and diced barbecue pork, also rounds out the offering.

One of their personal favourites on the menu include their Singapore Noodles, which are made with thin vermicelli noodles exuding aromatic curry and are accompanied by an assortment of seafood and barbecue pork.

Other must-try items include their pan-fried shrimp cakes with chives that burst with large succulent pieces of shrimp and the steamed dumplings on their dim sum menu. Luckily there's an abundance of varieties offered because they all come with tender, juicy fillings generous in portion that melt apart perfectly in your mouth, and are encased in a delicately soft starch-based wrap. This includes their lobster dumplings, which are naturally dyed pink and stuffed with lobster, shrimp and asparagus.
