2. Afuri Ramen opens first location in Toronto
The long-awaited opening of this famous ramen joint has finally come to the city. Originating in Tokyo, Afuri Ramen now has locations all over the world including its other Canadian spots in British Columbia, as well as in Portugal, the United States and now here in Toronto. The chain serves up popular small-plate dishes such as dumplings, Karaage and Donburi but the menu is centered around their signature Yuzu Shio ramen dish. Yuzu, a popular Asian citrus fruit, is combined with local chicken, dry fish "niboshi" "katsuobushi", dry konbu seaweed, and vegetables to produce a layer of umami flavors which they are now famous for. Named after a mountain, Mt. Afuri, their goal to always aim "higher" has brought them success in their expansion. You can find the newly opened Afuri Ramen at 411 Church St.
