There's something to be said for doing one thing really well, and that's exactly the bet J's Steak Frites has made since 2022. The concept is simple: one set menu, $60 a head - a fresh salad, house-made bread and butter, a perfectly marbled AAA Canadian striploin cooked to your liking, and unlimited crispy frites with their signature sauce. No decision fatigue, just really good steak.

The College Street location (577 College St.) took over full-time in 2025 after the original Queen West spot closed its doors, and it's since become the neighbourhood's go-to for date nights and celebratory dinners alike - 36 seats inside plus a 55-seat patio for warmer months. Upstairs, owners Jad Sfeir and Tara Tang have also launched Bitters and Bloom, a moody speakeasy serving Prohibition-era cocktails if you're looking to make a night of it.

Don't skip dessert - Tang's Mad Cow Chocolate Cake, made with Callebaut chocolate, has earned a reputation as one of the city's best.
