Bloor West Village’s beloved Latin restaurant is permanently closing after 18 years

Known for serving Nuevo Latino cuisine inside a colourful space, Bloom Restaurant will be permanently closing after their last dinner service on Saturday, July 30.

Since 2004, Bloom has been a vibrant part of the Bloor West Village community. Helmed by Cuban-born Chef Pedro Quintanilla, their Nuevo Latino cuisine brought the best of Latin American and Spanish dishes to the neighbourhood with tastes of Cuba, Brazil, and Peru.

“It has been an incredible pleasure to be part of the Bloor West Village community,” they wrote in a farewell post on Instagram. “But as many of you know, the last two years have been very difficult. In the midst of the COVID pandemic, our family was devastated with the sudden loss of my brother Bill, who founded Bloom in 2004. His passing has had huge emotional impact on us. For our family, it is time to move on.”

Over their 18-year history, Bloom has been known and loved for their modern Latin American specialties like Paella Habanera with Cuban-style sofrito and other special meat dishes, including a Cuban-style braised beef cheeks and lamb shank.

Even more praised than their flavourful cooking is the team’s above-and-beyond hospitality and friendliness that gave diners the warmth they came to associate with the colourful restaurant.

Bloom Restaurant will be serving their last guests this Saturday, July 30. Make sure to stop by to say farewell to the team and have their famous dishes one last time. Starting September 1, a new wine bar and smokehouse will be taking over to begin a new chapter at 2315 Bloor St. W.
