One of Toronto's most popular pop-ups is making a return for one weekend only

With restaurants returning to a takeout-only model after the provincial government announced the temporary closure of indoor dining, Toronto's favourite restaurants have had to get creative with their take-away operations once again. While some are dreaming up new and improved setups for the projected three-week prohibition, this popular Toronto takeout operation is bringing back a beloved weekend menu for a limited time.

Helmed by Chef David Schwartz, Sunny's Chinese––a restaurant pop-up focusing on regional Chinese cuisine––has grown a sort of cult following since their inception in 2020. Throughout the last year, they have had a series of successful weekend menus, eventually leading up to the opening of their sister restaurant, MIMI Chinese, which opened to rave reviews in the Fall of 2021. With no indoor dining though, MIMI Chinese made the decision to close the restaurant indefinitely, and are running a new Sunny's pop-up––which had been put on hold since September while they revved up for the MIMI opening.

Like all other times, the pop-up menu will be available on Monday (tomorrow), with exclusive access being given to their email subscribers. The pop-up is known for selling out in a matter of minutes, so according to the restaurant, the best chance at securing one of the meals is by signing up for their emailing list.

The pop-up is serving meals for this upcoming weekend, Jan. 14-16, and will only have a handful of time slots available. Each meal will cost $140 and feeds 2-3 people.

According to the restaurant, this pop-up menu will be "fresh" and unlike past menus, you'll be able to order wine and sake to compliment the meal.

While the pop-up is only operating for one weekend only, the team is hoping to do more in the future. In September 2021, Sunny's announced that they were taking a short break and would be picking back up in the Spring of 2022, operating out of a new location in Kensington Market. Plans are still on track for their return and lovers of Sunny's weekend pop-ups could be getting their hands on their takeout bags soon.

Don't miss out on Sunny's Chinese's return to Toronto this weekend.
